We planned a camping trip with the Eggar family last October for Gold Head Branch State Park. Due to ever shifting family schedules, we ended up camping one night while they stayed two. Still, good times! We had quite a hysterical laugh once we realized that the lake at the state park had completely dried up....like years ago! We'd seen references to this on the internet right before the trip but weren't able to confirm. Sure enough, there was a large grassy field where a lake used to be! Oh well, we still had fun. The kids played in the gazebo overlooking what used to be another small lake (also gone!) and rolled down the hill while Paul and I rolled around laughing. Seriously, why was the gazebo still there? Overlooking what exactly? Hahahaha!
There's still a puddle....!
Michael: "Is that the lake? We drove all the way here for that?"
Since there was nothing else to do (hahahahaha!) we headed to our campsite, pitched the tent and shade tent, inflated the mattress, and organized our gear. Michael and Daddy played baseball while Katelyn and I played squinkies.
The Eggars are here!
Michael and Faith ran off to play and we pretty much didn't see them again. They had so much fun playing in the woods together around our adjoining campsites! Katelyn tried to keep up but mostly hung out with us around the fire...and the marshmallows.
Mmmm, chili dawg.
We started out the next morning with breakfast burritos I had made ahead of time and froze in individual foil packages. Reheated great...definitely doing that again! After breakfast, we packed up and headed back to town for Michael's baseball game that afternoon. Once home we discovered we had 3 guests travelling with us...2 ticks for Michael and 1 tick for Katelyn. They were
horrified to say the least. Tick removal was epic. I repeat, EPIC. And given my Virginia run in with Lymes disease, Michael was convinced he was going to die. Convinced I tell you. Paul was all over the internet identifying the ticks once removed. He was pretty sure the kids were going to be alright but was still expecting them to go into convulsions at any minute. I took a lot of deep breaths. Paul declared a cessation of all future camping outings for the Reedy clan. *sigh*
